Fall and battery maintenance
05 October 2023
Autumn is a special season for the car. The weather conditions change, the temperature drops, the weather becomes humid and the daylight gradually decreases. As the climate can affect the driving as well as the performance of the car, checking and maintaining the battery at this time is a necessary procedure, which prepares the vehicle for the winter as well.
But what should you pay attention to to ensure the smooth operation of the battery?
7 things you need to know:
• The voltage is measured with a voltmeter which should read 12.40 volts or more.
• Battery level is especially important to keep at maximum. An undercharged battery has a reduced electrolyte density. This means that as the temperature drops, the density decreases even more resulting in starter problems.
• We keep the battery fully charged by using the right tools. A battery charger-maintainer, especially if we travel frequently and short distances.
• Checking the support of the battery is also important, as the battery must be firmly attached to its base.
• We also need to keep the parts around the battery (cables and terminals) in good condition to make sure the connections are tight and clean. If there is corrosion around the poles you can clean it with a stiff brush and baking soda with water.
• If we notice that the battery is struggling, then there is a good chance that it will fail us sometime during the winter, so we better change it soon
